Landscaper Technician Certifications – Everything You Need to Know

Many people enjoy working with flowers and landscaping, but haven’t had the opportunity to go to college to study horticulture. If you’re interested in becoming an industry-certified landscape technician, keep reading.

Start by joining the Landscape Contractors Association (LCA)after which you’ll be able to investigate the Landscape Industry Technician certification program. You should consider investing in your future career by enhancing your skills and gaining national recognition.

In order to be qualified take the landscaper technician certification test that will be the final requirement in order to gain technician certification, you must complete one of the following:

Have hands-ons landscaping experience. Over 4,000 hours worth.

Get an industry degree (2- or 4-year) and work at least 2,000 hours as a landscaper.
Work 1,000 hours, have a 2- or 4- year industry degree, and complete an internship program.

Next, in order to complete your certification, you will be required to pass a comprehensive exam. Once again, there is assistance available. You can register for two Saturday day-long classes that include both lectures and hands-on practice designed to help you successfully complete the exam. Check out the test registration dates, and make sure to get your registration packet returned on time. You’ll have plenty of time to review a study guide and the exam booklet if you sign up fast enough.

You’ll find many different problems on the test such as hardscape and softscape installation and turn and ornamental maintenance. You have to complete all of the problems as well as turn in a sample maintenance or installation landscaping project.

Don’t be discouraged after reading all of these requirements. After you join the LCA, you’ll get the guidance you need to pass. As your skills and confidence in the landscaping field increase, you will be able to get higher-paying jobs in the industry.
