what do i do about my ticket in florida?

Hello I have a driver’s license in New York and drove to Florida. i was pulled over by a policeman driving a high speed of 41 when the speed limit was 25. The officer told me I could send the Ticket to court and admit to the offense and the judge will decide. My question is? IF the judge will give points, will this affect my New York record, or my car insurance.

Both states are members of the Drivers License Compact. If you are convicted, Florida will report the ticket to New York.

Points have nothing to do with insurance. Points are simply a way for the DMV to track your violations. Once you accumulate a certain number of points, your license is suspended.

Insurance is based on risk factors. These include your age, the type of car you drive, your location, and your driving history. Any traffic violation can put you in a higher risk category, regardless of points. Some insurance companies offer forgiveness for the first violation, but will count both if you get another. You would have to ask your insurance agent what their policy is.
