Should I put my car insurance under my name or my dad’s name?
I’m 22 years old male, clean driving record, my dad just give me his 97 Lexus ES300, and we own the car together, so both his and my name are on the car registration.
The insurance is under his name at the moment, are there any advantage/disadvantage to switch the insurance to be under my name? Keep in mind that the car is owned by both of us. So if I’m in an accident which will be better off for me, insurance under him or me?
We have State Farm by the way, for about 6 month now.
If you are calling the car “yours” then you definately want it under your name.. put him down as an “additional insured” That way the state will know that the vehical with registration in his name has insurance. If you live with him then you can just have him listed on the policy but have it excluded. Now if you are looking to save money and the issue isnt really who gets the claim on thier name, then it would be better to check out both ways.. legally though if both your names are on the registration then the state needs to know that both of you have insurance.. his name as “additional insured” or yours.
