Have a passport AND a criminal record.Can I travel abroad?

Got my passport 6mos ago but have significant criminal record. No drug charges. Mostly alcohol related , impaired driving , etc. I would like to travel to mexico, central america, and maybe usa? Scared of paying for a trip and then being disallowed?

Mexico and Central American nations let almost anyone in. Can you be specific what type of passport you have? Issued by what nation?
