How long does the application process for air traffic controller?

My husband just applied the application process opened by the FAA. The current application is June 30 I recently read an opinion on an Amazon.com book, where the applicant requested July 7 and has not been contacted until December! The process usually so long? My husband has just left the USCG and has permission to high security, but not before experiance ATC. It will help at all? Please let me know how long the application process to open? How often does the school of Oklahoma who? Just curious if there expect a call soon, or we'll be waiting for several months.
