speeding ticket question?
if i recieved a speeding ticket 90 days ago and had 90 to return my papers saying i completed my defensive driving class but have not done so because of a 3-4 week delay in recieving papers to send to my court, what do i do. i mean i will miss the due date and a warrant will be issued for my arrest, but i think it is ridiculas, what do i do. should i call and explain my situation to the judge, i am a student and work every weekend. if they refuse to accept my defensive driving course stuff, what will happen to me, will they really come and arrest me over the thing, or can i just pay a late fee or something along the lines of that
They won’t come and arrest your, but if you fail to show up to pay the fine, or to show up in court, a judge may issue a bench warrant for your arrest, based on your failure to appear. (a new, different charge)
This means, that if you ever get pulled over or stopped for ANY reason, they will run your license and the bench warrant will appear. At this point, you WILL probably get arrested, and won’t get released until you post bail on BOTH charges, the speeding and Failure to Appear.
Right NOW, you MAY be allowed to simply pay the fine and late fee, but I recommend you CALL the county clerk, or traffic court in your area, first to find out the procedure. Years ago, I had an unpaid parking ticket that had slipped my mind for over a year. My wife had gone in to the clerk’s office on some other matter and, after seeing her address, the clerk’s computer showed up with the warrant on my parking ticket. The clerk was able to accept her check to pay my fine, but told her that if I came in, in person, I would have been arrested on the spot. Part of the reason was because it had been so long since the citation.
