How much is a 22349 (a) speeding ticket?
I was driving 85mph on the 405 north freeway (In California) and I was pulled over for speeding. (Obviously). I was so unaware that I was going 85 mph because I was simply going along with traffic. So with this, my question is: how much is the ticket? Will it go on my insurance? Is there any way I can lower the cost of the ticket?
My driving history: I’ve been driving since I was 16 and I am now 20 years old and (knock on wood) I have never been in an accident or gotten a ticket. Basically, my record is clean.
The bail/fine for a violation of CVC 22349(a) (16-25 mph over) in California is $311 including all penalty assessments. If you want the ticket to stay off your record, you can get it dismissed by attending traffic school. The court charges a $50 or so admin fee plus you pay about $30 to the school for tuition.
In this case, fighting it probably won’t be worth it. Presumably it was the CHP that stopped you and for a violation like speeding on the freeway, its a tough charge to beat. First, the CHP has a reputation for showing up for court and secondly, the evidence will most likely be in the officer’s favor. If you are absolutely determined, there’s a free tutorial on exactly how to do it, here: http://www.helpigotaticket.com/tut/index.html and the book the other answerer recommended is good also: http://bit.ly/cEwCCQ
The fine won’t be reduced unless you appear in court and you convince a judge you have extreme financial hardship. Most are reluctant to reduce fines, though because the fine is so standardized throughout the state.
