Michigan state forest campgrounds are some of the finest camping facilities in the Midwest United states. These family-friendly parks offer activities such as hiking, swimming, fishing, country sites, sailing, hunting, trail biking and plenty more. Most are pet-friendly, definitely couple friendly, and exhibit a charm and hospitality which will make you keep coming back for holiday year after year.

There are over 140 campgrounds in Michigan. Many of the most rustic campgrounds are found in the Higher Spur, while more contemporary campgrounds are found in the Lower Peninsula ( glove ). Michigan state forest campgrounds are really intensive, covering about 4,000,000 acres of state forest land. Most campgrounds are located on lakes or brooks, making them great locales for sailing and fishing. Some campsites are so remote that you have to access them by hiking thru woods, or by cruising across a stream.

One great modern campground in the Lower Cape ( glove ) is Highland Recreation Area. It offers 5,900 acres of forest, marshes and lakes within its mountainous landscape. There are trails for equestrian riders, hikers and skiers and mountain bikers. There is literally an activity for every season in this park. Activities include boating, fishing, hunting, trail cycling, swimming, cross country skiing, hiking, metal finding, snow-mobiling and wildlife watching. Facilities include cabins and lodges with electricity and modern bathrooms, a beach house, equestrian and picnic shelters, picnic areas and a dog trial area. Remember to try the Crown V Ranch, the Highland Recreation Area riding stable.

One of the oldest state parks in the Higher Headland is Brimley State Park. It is situated along the stunning shore of Whitefish Bay on Lake Superior. Activities include fishing, hiking, hunting, metal detecting, swimming and it’s part of the Michigan State Park Explorer programme. Facilities include Mini-Cabins with electrical service and modern restrooms, a beach house, picnic shelter, picnic area and playground. In the neighborhood merely a short drive from the park are other attractions such as the Tahquamenon Falls, 2 countrywide fish hatcheries, the Hiawatha Countrywide Forest, Mackinac Island State Park, the Tower of History, the Museum of Ship Valley Camp, the Soo Locks, the Coast Guard Station, the Global Bridge and the Mackinac Bridge.

On the acute eastern side of the Upper Cape is the rustic Lime Island State Forest Campground in Chippewa County. Visitors to Lime Island must take a ship three miles across the St. Mary’s River. Parking for vehicles is available inland at the town of Raber. Employing a non-motorized ship to cross the St. Mary’s Stream is not advised. Activities include fishing, hiking and swimming. Facilities include cottages with 2 to three bedrooms that will accomodate up to eight people, with some electrical capacities produced by solar panels in the roof. Water and compact restrooms are conveniently found nearby. Tent camping is available too using wooden platforms to cut back the effect on the encircling environment. This is a place that you can get back to the simpler pleasures in life.
