Out of town, forgot plea in abeyance for speeding ticket?

I’m out of town until the week after my plea in abeyance letter is due, and I, being the forgetful idiot I am, forgot to send the letter and driving record to the court. It was for a minor infraction – 5 over speeding ticket – so do you think I could contact the court and somehow negotiate to get my letter in late? And what will happen if it is late?
