how can i plead out of the points for running a red light in nj?
I got stopped this morning, i thought the light was yellow, the officer felt it was red… Ok, so i got the ticket, $85 + 2 points. I am a 39 year old female with an immaculate driving record, clean license, no points ever. Money is so tight, I’d really hate to have these points on my insurance. I’m stuck with the fine, but what is my best bet for trying to get the points removed or reduced? I know I’ll have to go to court, what do I say/ask? This was in East Brunswick, NJ. Any sensible advice is greatly appreciated.

Any one with any legal experience knows that prosecutors deal with low priority cases and work things out prior to court ALL THE TIME to not waste the judge’s time. Okay, to begin with, if you thought the light was yellow, you should have stopped. Going into an intersection on yellow is also not allowed and can get you a red light ticket, as it did.
Go to court. Enter a plea of guilty, and explain that you have no other tickets, and ask the judge if there is any way to keep the points off your record. Chances are he will allow you to pay a fine, attend a driving school, and set aside your conviction for a period of time, and if you get no other tickets in that time, it will go away. It will be up to the judge of course.
