Driving history of DMV’s vs. Insurers’ ?
I had a car accident 8 months before. However, when i request my driving history from DMV, it doesn’t show up anything about that. At the time of the accident, i didn’t get a ticket. The police officer only gave me a case number if in-case need to receive the accident report. The accident was not that bad. However, my insurance had to pay some expenses for cover. I has been out of insurance for about 6 months from now and i was not driving either in those time. Now, my question is: do i need to mention about this accident to the insurance company that i want to by now? ( of course a different one from the one i used to have) I am thinking not to say a word about it as my DMV record doesn’t show anything. Any idea ? do u think these insurance companies exchange information on another ?
The accident happened while i was in Virginia
Now i am in Maryland
The only time an accident will appear on your drivers license is if in an accident the police are called and you fail to produce proof of insurance. But apparently that did not happen since you had insurance. The only other thing that will appear will be tickets such as parking, speeding etc on your DMV record.
When you go to buy new insurance, you will be required to fill out an application and it will ask you if you had any accidents for either the last 3 to 5 years. If you fail to disclose this accident, then if you were to file a claim and they find out later that you did not disclose, they can VOID out your policy for misrepresentation, or otherwise known as insurance fraud.
Many insurance companies report all claims to a data base called CLUE, which many companies might check before insuring you. Also since you have been uninsured for over 6 months, this will cause you to have higher premiums due to a lapse in coverage. Granted you were not driving and had no accidents, but insurance companies look at this as high risk.
So the new company will look at your drivers license, will ask for proof of prior insurance, which they will ask from the other company with the former claim and base the quote they give you based on that info. If the former company did not pay out a lot, may help you.
Don’t lie, or could find yourself w/out insurance even if you buy it.
good luck

Can Defensive Drivers Make The World A Safer Place?
Bad drivers are the cause of most accidents that occur on roadways. The main trouble with this, is the majority of people hurt aren’t the ones causing the car wrecks. Though it isn’t what you would like to do, you must be a defensive driver any time you put your key into the ignition of your car. It can be in your best interest to be aware of what other drivers are doing so you will not be surprised at their next actions.
You can find a number of ways for you to be all set for anything that comes your way, while in your car. Probably the greatest things to do would be to always be on guard. Once you get behind the wheel of your car, it is not the time to be chatting with people on the phone or in the car and it’s not recommended to spend much time looking at the passing sights. The primary reason for driving is to go from one place to another place, safely. Whenever that you must deal with a distraction whether it’s conversing with other people in the car, talking on the phone, turning on the radio, or checking your makeup in the mirror, you’re increasing your chances of having an accident.
Even though speaking on a cellular phone while driving is forbidden in many places around the world, that has not stopped people from doing so. Driving with one hand over the steering wheel and one hand on the cellular phone can cause a lot of problems because your attention is not fully on the road. It doesn’t take much to become so engrossed in your discussion that you don’t focus on what is happening on the road. When you must move rapidly in order to avoid hitting something, your reaction time may be extremely slow if you’re concentrating on something other than your driving. It’s essential that you keep aware of surrounding road conditions because there is certainly no way to know when something unforeseen may happen.
Remaining attentive is important, especially when it comes to debris in the road, or even potholes. The majority of highways are pretty much safe to drive on, but harmful things can get on the road, like stuff falling off a garbage truck, or a construction vehicle, and also many places rocks can roll down onto the road. Any one of such situations could cause an accident in the event the conditions are right. If the driver suddenly runs into some unexpected debris in the road, he will most likely obtain some harm to his car particularly if he is driving at high speeds. Even so, conditions could be dangerous enough that you may collide with another vehicle or maybe roll your own vehicle. Little doubt you can recall more than one time when you needed to suddenly veer to one side so you wouldn’t drive across something in the road, and how much worse might this have been if your attention had been diverted?
Being conscious of your surrounds is important in locations where there are possible animals on the highway, or places where there are walkers, joggers or bicycle riders. A defensive driver will be on the alert for them at all times. You definitely don’t wish to cause pain to someone who was following the rules of the road simply because you chose not to give your full attention to your driving.
