Penalty for driving without insurance in Ontario?

Hi there, I was just wondering what the penalty is for driving without insurance whilst having your G1 in Ontario. At the time, I was 18. How many demerit points? How long does it stay on your record? Can you appeal to get it removed after a certain period of time?

Thanks in advance
also, does your license get suspended? If so, how long?

Also, do you get a fine? If so, how much?

I was involved in an accident with damage being 1000 dollars.
My mom’s insurance paid off the damage and her rates went up.
the car belonged to my mom, and she was with me at the time of the accident

If your the vehicle belonged to your mom and her insurance paid for the damages, then how could you be driving without insurance? If an insurance company paid for the damages caused by an accident involving the car you were driving, ergo you were driving WITH insurance, right? So how can you be charged with driving without insurance? If by some Twilight Zone chance you were just bring your mom’s policy with you to court to show that the vehicle was insured at the time of the accident, or bring evidence that the insurance company paid the claim to show proof the vehicle was insured. BTW the penalty for driving without insurance in Ontario is:

“…is guilty of an offence and is liable on a first conviction to a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $25,000 and on a subsequent conviction to a fine of not less than $10,000 and not more than $50,000 and, in addition, his or her driver’s licence may be suspended for a period of not more than one year.”

So yes a license can be suspended for a year.
