Michigan Motorcycle Insurance. With a bad driving record. How do i go about this?

I just got back in town from being in FL for a couple months. Took a basic riders course down there to get my motorcycle endorsement on my license. FL does not require insurance so I did not obtain any during my time down there riding my bike. I just bought a new bike up here (06 CBR 600 4FI ) and have a pretty ugly driving record. Do i have to tell them what i recall, for there may have been violations and tickets i dont remember, especially the dates. I have been involved in accidents in my work vehicles twice in the last two years. And i have obtained a speeding ticket. I have had to pay drivers responsiblity fees for having too many points within too little of a time. Please advice me what step to take. I have less than six month street riding experience and most websites cant give me a quote. Shall i call around, or is having a bad driving record and wanting a motorcycle in MI difficult to deal with?

First off, understand that any insurance company you speak with will pull ALL your prior DMV reports and know exactly what you’ve been up to. Lying to them will only lead to denial of coverage, maybe not right away (most companies work on good faith while they do the paperwork), but if you have a claim and they find you lied it will be denied, and when they find the omissions they will cancel.

Know that you will pay a lot for your prior “instances”, just accept it and move on. Since you’re not sure on dates/specifics, it may be to your benefit to work with someone who has a local office, someone you can side down in front of face to face. Show good faith, and they’ll help you out should other things pop up.

You Might find that you will just be denied across the board. In that case, don’t worry..it’s not MI specific ~ it would be the case in Every state that requires insurance. Stop breaking the law, drive cautiously, and in 3~5 years with no additional infractions you’ll be able to obtain insurance.
