Accident Ticket dismissed Am I still responsible for the damges?

I live in ohio and I got in an accident and the police said I was at fault eventhough I told him that I dont believe I was and that I will not admitt that I was. He gave me a ticket for wrong turn and since the car was cover only under my father name and I was driving his insurance refused to pay. And the other party damage fees were sent to my driving record which caused my license to be suspended for a year and I got 90 days suspension for driving without an insurance in which I have already served. When I went to court for the ticket that I got, the judge ended up dismissing it. So I wanted to know if that means that I was not at fualt or that I dont have to pay for the damages?

And what can I do if I believe that the accident was not my fault can I take the other party to court or what?

I think it depends on the situation:
Why was the ticket dismissed?

Here is the thing, in order for a person to hold another person legally responsible for libability costs a person has to be found at fault with out reasonable doubt.

If the judge dismissed your ticket for wrong turn, which is what the officer use to you at fault ,because the judge was unable to prove you were at fault then you can appeal the damage fees being placed on you. You can state that in order to be held responsible for any damages you would have had to been proven guilty of being at fault for the car accident. That is why you have a court date, this is the oppurtunity to appeal your case. Otherwise, you don’t need to show up, you just need to pay the ticket on time and sign it stateing you plead guilty.

You can also appeal any suspension that was place on your drivers license too for the at fault part.

However, the no insurance is something you will have to deal with as you didn’t have insurance.

Here is the catcher: in some states the law is that if one person is driving with out insurance and gets into an accident, it doesn’t matter who is at fault; they will be held accountable for not having insurance and have to pay for the damages. You would have to look more into that, I believe there is more to it than that. But, you may find yourself in that position.

So, again – if you showed up to court to fight the ticket that claimed you were at fault for wrong turn and the judge dismissed the ticket as he didn’t find you at fault – you can appeal the damages fees.

If you were dismissed because the cop who wrote the ticket didn’t show up and you plead not guilty. Here is how that works, since the cop is the one who wrote the ticket it is his word against yours. He is the one who found you at fault and he had to show in court to state his claim against yours. If he didn’t show and you stated not guilty, then the judge has no choice but to take your word and throw the case out, hence dismissing the ticket.
Tis doesn’t mean the other people who have damages to their car cannot still sue you for civil damages and attempt to prove you were at fault in court. It only means you wont have points on your driving record and you may be able to lift the suspension.

No matter what: THe other party may take you to court to sue you if you do fight the damage fees, and if they can attempt to prove to that judge you were in fact at fault, if they do then you will have to pay the damages. And, you do not want that on your credit report, it will go on your credit report.
